Group Selection
Roommate group selection for deposited students will begin on Monday, February 24, 2025. We recommend that all roommate groups pair in even numbers (2, 4, 6, or 8) to participate in housing selection. Please note that we will not have triples in the returning student areas next year. If you select to be an odd group, a group of one will be placed in the open bed of the space your group has selected. All unmatched students will enter our process as a individual and will be placed at the end of our process.
To create a group, students should follow these steps:
- Log into your MyHousing Portal.
- In the menu click on “Roommate Selection.”
- Click “select roommates.”
- Where it says “for the term,” change the date to Fall 2025.
- Scroll down to “Pending roommate Requests.” If you have any, click the 3 buttons next to their name and either accept or decline.
- If you need to match with more members of your group, click “search for roommate” and search for the first person you are looking to live with by entering their information and clicking “begin search.”
- “Search Results” will appear below and you will click to request a roommate. That roommate will then receive a pending request.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for all people you are requesting to live with.
Once everyone has requested or accepted a request from each member of the group, they will be considered “fully matched.” If not everyone matches with each other, the group will not be considered fully matched, and students will not be able to participate in the process. Residence Life will reach out to you if this is not completed.

Cohort Year
Your housing selection priority will be based on your group’s size and your group’s cohort year. Cohort year refers to the year that students entered the college:
Please see below for further explanation:
- Groups who are exclusively rising seniors (entering ’22)* will receive the best housing selection time on their group size’s selection night
- Groups who have a rising junior (entering ’23)* as the lowest cohort year will receive the next best housing selection time on the selection night for their group size.
- Groups who have a rising sophomore (entering ’24)* as the lowest cohort year will receive the latest housing selection times on the selection night for their group size.
*class years will be appropriately adjusted for transfer students
Prior to the general housing selection process beginning, students planning to live in Austin Scholars or Honors Living Learning Communities (LLC), will go through the process to live in their predetermined communities, Austin Scholars in South Residential Village, and Honors in North Residential Village.
Students in the LLCs will receive additional communication regarding their intention to participate in LLC housing selection.

Our process will then go through different nights by group size 8/7, 6/5, 4/3, and groups of 2.

Selection Night Instructions
Kickoff the 2025-2026 school year with a lively and exciting selection night!
Click here to watch a video on how to select a room.
At least one group member is encouraged to attend selection night on the 2nd floor of the Sakowich Campus Center and bring a mobile device to access the MyHousing Portal for selection. We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your selection time. We have staff support available to answer questions, along with food, music and fun!
A couple of minutes before your selection time, only one group member should log into the MyHousing Portal, and follow the steps below:
- At your selection time (no earlier), click ‘Select A Room/Suite’ on the homepage
- Your roommate group will display on screen
- Click ‘Select from Room List’ and ‘Search Available Rooms’
- Scroll available rooms to select from. The portal will let you know how many spots are available in each bedroom and suite.
- When you would like to select a room, click ‘Select Room/Suite’
- Designate which students you would like in each bedroom using the dropdowns.
- Click ‘Submit Room Selection’ to lock in your room. You will not be able to change this yourself once you select.
- Check your email for a confirmation email regarding the space you have selected. Congratulations!
If space is no longer available in your desired group size by your selection time, you will have the opportunity to reform your group prior to the following selection days which will enable you to participate on the next selection day. Please note that students who select a space may not regroup once they have chosen a housing assignment.
The roommate matching portal will reopen immediately after selection is complete that night for students to regroup and will close at 12:00 PM the following day.
Note: Students choosing to regroup must ensure their group is fully matched by noon to participate in additional housing selection processes. Unmatched or partially matched groups will not be eligible to participate in selection.
If you have still not selected your room by the end of housing selection, Residence Life will be in communication about completing a Housing Interest form to rank your housing preferences. Residence Life will place all remaining groups, including those going through the process as an individual. Please be aware that Residence Life reserves the right to update a student’s housing assignment at any time to maximize space within the residence hall.
