HSC 6200G Sports Nutrition Credits - 4 Credits

A study of nutrition as it relates to optimum performance for sport and health. Nutrient needs, sources, functions and interactions are reviewed according to the latest scientific findings. Principles of body conditioning are emphasized with attention to diet and lifestyle practices that promote health and decrease risks of nutrition related diseases.

ATR 6750 Behavioral Health Care - 4 credits

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the practice of integrated behavioral health care in a primary care setting. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the roles of behavioral health providers working in primary care settings, theories and models of care, and cross-cultural issues. After reviewing the foundational counseling skills needed to engage patients in primary care, students will develop skills in assessment, intervention planning, treatment implementation, and program evaluation. Students will learn to identify the clinical signs of mental health disorders and high risk psychiatric presentations, personal/social conflicts, eating disorders, and substance use disorders. Students will also develop competence in supporting primary care patients who present with a wide range of physical and behavioral health concerns, including considerations for diverse patients and those who face barriers to receiving care. HSC 5320G Chronic Disease Prevention - 4 credits

This course is designed to provide the graduate student with an overview and understanding of the significant issues and trends in chronic disease. Topics include: heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, cancer, chronic lung diseases, and musculoskeletal diseases will be studied. In addition, risk factors, extent, and modern public health approaches to prevention and control of major chronic diseases will also be covered. HSC 6100 Performance Testing and Evaluation In-depth study of acute and chronic responses to cardiopulmonary, metabolic, biochemical, and cellular adaption to exercise and training with special reference to hydration, thermo regulation, renal and muscular function.

ATR 5100G Functional Clinical Anatomy - 4 credits

This course will focus on clinically relevant anatomy designed to increase the student’s knowledge and exposure to the structural and functional components which include; musculoskeletal origins, insertions, actions, and innervations. The function of the skeletal, articular muscular and nervous systems will be covered through an advanced clinical approach.

ATR 5200G Fundamental Skills in Athletic Training - 4 credits

This integrated lecture laboratory course will focus on essential athletic training skills necessary for active participation in the patient care setting. The primary focus will be on injury prevention concepts, interventions and techniques.

ATR 5400G Clinical Examination and Diagnosis I - 4 credits

This course provides a comprehensive approach to the assessment and diagnosis of lower extremity, and low back musculoskeletal injuries including the identification of risk factors, the role of clinical outcome measures and appropriate referral decisions. The utilization and implementation of evidence—‐based practice will be a primary focus throughout this course.

ATR 6400G Clinical Examination & Diagnosis II - 4 credits

This course provides a comprehensive approach to the assessment and diagnosis of upper extremity, head, neck and torso musculoskeletal injuries including the identification of risk factors, the role of clinical outcome measures and appropriate referral decisions. The utilization and implementation of evidence based practice will be a primary focus throughout this course.

ATR 6450G Clinical Pathophysiology and Medical Interventions - 4 credits

Small group, problem based learning course utilizing patient case studies of various general medical, acute care and post-operative patient case scenarios or pathologies to facilitate integration of health care. Students will learn to think, reason and apply basic and clinical science concepts to formulate appropriate assessment, treatment strategies and medical referral in relation to athletic training and patient care.

ATR 6600G Research Methods for Clinical Practice - 4 credits

This course explores the process and methods of scientific inquiry and interpretation of research findings in athletic training.

ATR 6302G Clinical Experience and Decision Making V - 4 credits

This course will provide a means to assess and develop competence in the athletic training clinical integration proficiencies. 200 hours of clinical experience in an athletic training setting.

ATR 6500G Physical Agents and Mechanical Modalities - 4 credits

This course is designed to introduce students to the contemporary usage and basic foundation of Therapeutic Modalities.

ATR 6350G Cultural Competence in Health Care Administration - 4 credits

The course will focus on business management principles associated with athletic training clinical practice including leadership and professional development. In addition this course will provide an appreciation and understanding in the respect of cultural differences when caring for patients.

ATR 6650G Introduction to Medical Imaging - 4 credits

This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the diagnostic imaging techniques commonly used by the medical community.

ATR 6550G Concepts in Therapeutic Interventions - 4 credits

Designed to place an emphasis on the theories, concepts and interventions involved in rehabilitating and reconditioning injuries associated with the musculoskeletal system. Students will gain an understanding of trauma and how clinical decisions are made in progressing the rehabilitation program based on the healing process.

ATR 6700G Special Topics in Healthcare - 4 credits

This course will cover emerging and contemporary issues and topics in the ever-changing healthcare environment.

ATR 5150G Emergency Management and Prevention - 4 credits

This integrated lecture laboratory course will provide a comprehensive approach to the identification of risk factors, preparation of emergency action plans and the recognition and care of emergency medical conditions.
